The contractor that the Justice Department says knowingly took shortcuts when investigating individuals seeking security clearances agreed to forgo about $30 million that it says the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) still owes the company, according to an Aug. 19 DOJ statement.
The DOJ last year accused USIS, the company responsible for background checks on about half of all federal government hires, of submitting incomplete background reviews for approximately 40 percent of the cases it handled, which amounts to about 665,000 cases between March 2008 and September 2012.
